Tip of the day (spring weather)

Spring is just around the corner. The weather starts to warm up but then can turn nasty very quickly. It's difficult to know what to wear when you go out. One tried and tested way is to use a gillet with Arm and leg warmers. Each item can puton or taken off as and when the weather warms up or down. When your not using them they will fold up neatly and slip in to the back pocket of your jersey.

Tuesday 22 February 2011

Tip of the day (The Bonk)

The Bonk, Hitting the wall each sport has it's own name for it. It's when you blood sugar levels drops and you run out of energy. Your body usually has enough stored energy to last two hours before it hits.
The first signs of the Bonk it you actually start to feel stronger you pace usually increases, then you'll find that you start sweeting then it hits. It's like have a puncture in both legs. Every cyclist has had the bonk at some yime.

Tip of the day (no showers)

If you are riding an event and there are no showers do what the Dutch and Belgian riders do get yourself a spray bottle, fill it with water and a touch of eau de cologone, a flanel and a towel. Spray it all over your body, wipe of the dirt with the flannel and dry off with the towel. It's almost as good as a shower and very refreshing. It saves you having an uncomfortable drive home.

TCR Triathlon Cycle Run Show this week

The Triathlon Cycling and Running Show will take place at Sandown Park on the 11-13 February and once again will be packed with the greatest products, services, seminars and features for the triathlete, cyclist and runner.

Whether you are a seasoned competitor, or new to the world of multisport, TCR11 is for you. Two seminar theatres will have presentations from top coaches and athletes, the Zoggs SwimZone to help with your swim technique, the Saucony 10K run, Multipower indoor cycle competition and over 130 top brands and retailers exhibiting.

Although this event is aimed at Triathletes all the top bike brands will be there to show off this years models.

I went a few years ago and it was a great event. Loads of seminars where you can to and pick up training tips from top coaches.

If you are there near the end a lot of the exhibitors sell stuff off cheap it saves them having to pack it up and take it back. You could get a bargain, don't forget to haggle.

Well worth a visit.

Tip of the day (new jersey)

We have all been there. You buy a new jersey or get your new club jersey for the season and your first event of the year is coming up.
You want to show off your new colours. Stop! before you use any jersey wash it. especially if it's a white or a light colour.
At this time of year the roads are wet, dirty and soaked with diesel oil. You will finish the event black. When you try to wash it if is was white it will have turned into a horrible grey colour if it light colour it will have a tinge of grey.
The best thing to do is to wash it first, the soap particles will attach themselves to the fibres so when it does get dirty the dirt doesn't absorbs quite so much. When you wash it you stand more of a chance of it coming out clean.
